Classical
Neapolitan Mandolin

This instrument is modeled after instruments made by the great American mandolin company the Vega company. They were very active at the turn of the 20th c. making fine instruments in the Italian tradition, but with a fresh style. The Vega model was famous for warm tone and powerful carrying power. I believe I have captured the essence of the original concept of this instrument.

Instrument features:

  • String Length - 33 cm
  • Body length - 30cm
  • Body width - 23cm
  • Body depth - 14.5cm
  • Four double courses
  • Back -choice of figured maple, yew, or rosewood. Thirty three scalloped ribs with ebony spacers
  • Front - Engelmann spruce with mother of pearl edge binding and sound hole ring. Faux tortoise shell scratch plate
  • Neck - carved figured maple with carbon fiber reinforcing strip
  • Fingerboard - Twenty nine fret concert fingerboard. Ebony with ebony edge binding. Nickel bar frets.
  • Schaller machine heads
  • Form fitting case from Kingham MTM Cases
  • Steel strings
  • Instruments are made with either a flat head with the machines set into the back of the head and covered with a plate, or an open head with the machines mounted on the side of the head

Price for deluxe model: $3,800.00

This instrument is also available without mother-of pearl binding and features a rounded back with 25 ribs that are not scalloped.
